Pine River MS/HS Happenings for March and April

Before we look forward to what is happening in the middle school for the months of March and April, let us highlight some of the events that happened in the last month or two.  In February, the Outdoor Education Science class went to Rose Lake to apply what they have learned in class in regards to aquatic life and to use the jigs and poles they created to catch some fish.  All involved received a great learning experience they will never forget.  Thanks to Mr. Eric Thompson for creating this teachable moment and chaperones Scott Buckmaster, Aaron Schab, and Willy Holmes for accompanying and helping the class.  A picture of the experience is below.

On February 28, a few members of the jazz band class and Ms. Gardner performed a concert for the pre-school students.  The concert was a great experience for the “big” kids as well as the “little” kids.  Thank you to the jazz band students who performed and to Ms. Gardner for providing this opportunity.  The girl’s basketball team wrapped up its season with a  tough loss to Lakeview in their first district game.  The boy’s basketball team plays at Montabella on March 7 at 7 pm.  Congratulations to the varsity wrestling team for their top four finish in the team wresting finals.  We are very proud of your hard work and the way you represented Pine River Athletics.  The middle school girls finished up their basketball season and the middle school wrestling team is in the middle of their season.  High school spring sports will begin on March 12, 2018.  Pay attention to announcements to determine practice times and places.  You must have a physical on file to participate in a spring sport.  If you do not have a physical on file, you cannot practice.  If you are unsure if you have a physical on file or not please contact the athletic director, Mr. Shawn Ruppert.

A list of middle school events will be shown below for the months of March and April.  Some of the events that you should pay close attention to include parent teacher conferences, March 13, for grades 4-12 from 4 to 7 pm.  This would be a great time for you come out, talk to teachers, and gauge what progress your student is making.  March is reading month.  Mrs. Adema, our 4-7 assistant principal, along with our 4-7 staff have some fun reading activities planned for our students.  Also in March in the 4-7 building there will be a dance and movie night.  In the high school the band will be traveling to McBain for MSBOA on March 8.  Some members of the band will be traveling to attend the musical, “Lion King” .  This will occur in April.  Sophomores will obtain information on class rings and then be able to order class rings on two different dates in April.  In late March or early April, students will be registering for classes for next school year.  Please take the time to discuss this with your child especially if you have a junior or senior that wants to attend CTC.  Also, if you have a student that is eyeing scholarship opportunities through athletics make sure they are scheduled in classes that abide by NCAA clearing house rules and procedures.  Spring break will begin at 11:15 am on March 23.  You are reminded that students can only miss 11 absences in a semester, so please keep this in mind if you are planning on leaving early for spring break.  Please visit our website or face book page for information and dates.  If you are interested in getting the announcements that students receive please call the middle school or high school office to indicate that you wish to do this.
