Pine River May and June Newsletter
PINE RIVER MS/HS Happenings
Greetings to everyone. As the school year ends, this time often is busy with field trips, state testing, local testing, spring athletics, local baseball leagues, school plays, graduation, and not to mention exams. Take the time to look over the calendar and plan accordingly. The 8th grade class had the opportunity to attend a Detroit Tigers game on April 20. They were treated to a 3-2 walk off win and a beautiful day. I would like to extend my gratitude to all that chaperoned, prepared lunches, and drove the bus to Detroit and back. A special thank you to Mr. Ron Thompson who organized this trip and obtained free tickets for the students. Below is a picture from the trip.
Speaking of field trips, some have been scheduled for students in grades 6-12 for the next two months. Please look at the dates under the HS/MS EVENT heading. Please look for any information that may come home or call the middle school or high school office if you have any questions. As the school year ends, please remind your children to keep working hard and prepare for exams. Please check your student’s progress in power school and contact teachers if you have any questions. If your child is one that failed a course or courses, summer school will be provided free of charge. Information on the schedule and instructor will be coming soon and posted on our face book page and put in student’s announcements. Students must sign-up for these courses and are expected to attend. The courses for recovery will be held here at the high school. If you have any questions please call Mr. Phillips.
Students have also finished scheduling for classes for next year. Please make sure your child has completed this task. At the end of this year and into summer, the sections of classes will be set up in time for next fall. Please respect this process as it takes time and effort. Most schedules will not be completed until right before we start school. The last day of school for seniors will be May 15 with commencement taking place on May 20 at 2 pm. Please come out and celebrate this milestone. The rest of the students will be attending school until June 12, which is a half-day. The exam schedule will be released sometime in May but tentatively exams will start on June 8. An awards ceremony will be scheduled sometime on June 11. More information on this schedule will follow.
Finally, this will be the last newsletter for the 2017-2018 school year. I am anticipating posting a newsletter sometime in late July or early August indicating any changes in the handbook, new hires, or any events scheduled before school for parents and students to attend. One event may be a freshman orientation sometime in August to help parents and students understand the academic and behavioral expectations the administration and staff have for high school students. Please keep checking the face book page for that information. Have a great and safe summer.
