Pine River MS-HS Happenings for November and December, 2018
Welcome to the months of November and December. The first quarter of the school year is almost complete. Highlights of the first quarter of school include the following: marching band receiving ratings of one during marching festival on October 17, 2018, the football team making the playoffs, parent teacher conferences on Oct. 25, and speaker David Pride making presentations to grades 6-12.
The month of November not only has the opening day of deer season and Thanksgiving Break as days off for students but students also will have no school on November 2 due to teacher in-service. Academically, November 2 represents the completion of the first quarter of school. Progress reports will be sent out the week of November 5-9. Students who participated in M-STEP testing last spring will have their results sent with each students along with their progress report.
Important community events in November include the Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 9. Times for the assemblies will be determined. The jazz band will be holding their Dinner and Dance night also on November 9 in Tustin. On Sunday, November 4, Center Lake will be hosting Chris McKenna, presenter of the program “Protecting Young Eyes”. Local churches have funded this effort designed for parents. Chris will be presenting what parents can do to understand the technology their children use. He will try to inform parents on what to look for in regards to technology and social media. Speaking from the experience of having to deal with issues involving cell phones and computers, parents need to have as much information as possible to help educate and protect their students. Lastly, as Thanksgiving approaches, the high school will be holding a food drive for families. The Food Drive will start around November 12 and end roughly around November 21. Middle school basketball for boys will be in full swing in November and finishing in December. The basketball teams for junior varsity and varsity boys will start the first week in November, while the girl’s season will start the second week of November. Wrestling will also be starting around this time.
Transitioning to December will be a quick month with Christmas vacation taking up the last part of it. Contests for both boys and girls basketball will be happening all month. Please check the athletic calendar for more details. National Honor Society will be sponsoring adopt a family starting December 3 and ending December 14. Friday, December 21, will be a half-day with students being dismissed at 11:15 and no lunch served. This will be an AM CTC day with AM CTC students attending CTC as regular, but being dismissed at 10:40 a.m. The class hours meeting this day will be 1-4. The first part of that day, as of right now, will be service project and the rest of the day tentatively will be activity day with different activities such as dodgeball and movies.
