Pine River Area Schools 4-7 Building Newsletter

December 7, 2018

Please be sure your students have the proper attire to go outside, as all kids 4th-7th grade go outside for at least 15 minutes a day! Our PRIDE Points Program is underway, so remember to ask your child about how they earn stickers and for what kind of behaviors your child has earned them for. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.  As the holiday season continues, please remember to take a few minutes to slow down and just be present with your family, because although it is a busy time of year, I believe there is a song that says it’s also “the most wonderful time of the year.” Have a great weekend!

4th grade – Acacia Kitelinger –  Acacia is a perfect example of POISE.  She is always cooperative and kind to others.  I can always count on Acacia to set a great example for those around her.  Great job, Acacia!

4th grade – Macen Davis – Macen is a wonderful example of a student who works hard to be the best he can be. He is always polite and kind to the other students and very respectful towards adults.

5th grade – Jamin Whitmore is this week’s Student of the Week for 5th grade.  He shows his poise by being attentive in class and following classroom expectations.  He also shows his resiliency when he doesn’t give up on his math work.  Keep up the good work, Jamin!

5th grade – Paul Frayer has been selected as the 5th Grade Student of the Week. Paul has really been a true example in our classroom and hallways of showing PRIDE. He has especially shown his POISE in the classroom by being prepared, staying engaged and on task, completing work, and respecting the class responsibilities & his teachers and classmates. We are VERY proud of you, Paul! Keep showing your PRIDE 🙂

6th Grade – Chloe Zimmerman shows integrity and poise on a daily basis.  She always works hard in the classroom and willingly stays after class to help straighten up the classroom for the next set of students.

7th Grade –  Addyson Shaw shows great Poise in the classroom.  Addyson works hard on her classwork and will ask questions when needed.  She most often completes her work and will help others to understand the material so they too can be successful.

4th/5th grade students:  When students arrive at school, they should go outside on the playground. Playground supervision begins at 7:45.  At 8:05am, students are allowed to go to their lockers and then to their classrooms. If it is raining or the ‘feels like’ temperature is below 10 degrees, students will be allowed in their hallways until 8:05am.

6th/7th grade students: When students arrive at school, they may go eat breakfast in the Middle School Cafeteria, to the playground at 7:45, or to the Media Center. Students should not be in the High School.

The weight room is open after school for any HS or MS football player interested in lifting who is not participating in a winter sport.  Please contact Terry Martin for more information.

On Wednesday and Thursday, December 12th and 13th, our annual Santa’s Secret Shop will be at Pine River Middle School. We are having a store-like setting with items for children to purchase again this year. All items will be priced just $1 and will be gift wrapped for students. Each classroom has a scheduled time slot for children to secretly shop for gifts to give their families and friends. If you would like your child to purchase items, please send money with them on their scheduled day. Cash or checks (made payable to Pine River FMS) will be accepted.

*** If you are able to volunteer to help either day, please contact Holly Lockhart at or 231.829.3841.

Student grades and attendance are always available through our parent portal. Information was sent home earlier in the school year explaining account setup. If you have any questions about your account setup, please contact Mrs. Rigling in the office at 231.829.3141 Option 3.

4th/5th grade students:  Help Desk is available to students on Wednesday and Thursday until 4:30 pm each week. This is optional for students or may be requested by the classroom teacher, but please contact the school if your child will be staying.

6th/7th grade students: Help Desk is available to students from 3:20-4:20pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each week. Any student may choose to attend Help Desk to catch up on work, but anyone participating in an extracurricular activity is required to attend if they are receiving a failing grade.
