Welcome to the months of January and February.  The first half of the school year is almost complete.  Highlights of November included: successful Veteran’s Day Assembly on November 9, completion of leadership sponsored food drive for Thanksgiving capped off by the Amazing Race on November 21, and the beginning of basketball season for girls and boys, as well as wrestling season.

The month of December saw competitions for wrestling and basketball starting.  Choir and band concerts were performed for the public in December as well. Students and staff completed the “Ten Days of Christmas” contest to help needy families at Christmas time.  Project Elf was completed at the middle school level. Selected students were given the opportunity to go shopping with some staff members and fulfill some Christmas wishes. The leadership class also completed “Christmas Wishes” project to help fulfill the wishes of as many students in grades 8-12 as possible.  Also December 21, students used part of the activity day to complete baskets for the residents of the Samaritas Senior Living Home in Cadillac. The students completed 100 baskets containing cookies, coffee mug, ornament, candy cane, fruit, a hand decorated Christmas card. Here is a photo of some of the baskets made and transported.

Students will be returning to school on January 3, 2019.  The end of the first semester will be January 25, 2019. Please review your student’s grades and attendance as the end of the first semester approaches. The interim tests for all subject areas will run from January 7 to January 25, 2019.   The beginning of the new semester will start January 28, 2019. Exam week will be starting January 23 and ending January 25. January 21 will be a day off for the district in observance of Martin Luther King Day. As we approach the months of January and February, please keep in mind in-climate weather and listen to the news and make sure you are getting calls from the school notifying you of closures or delays.

February is a month that is short in duration.  Students will not be attending school on February 15 because of professional development for staff.  Students and staff will not be attending school on February 18 because of President’s Day. January and February are months where initial steps of state testing will occur.  Also in February, students will start registering for classes with the pre-registration process. Please take time to discuss what classes your student should sign up for next school year.  Some dates to keep in mind for the community include Snowfest game on January 18, 2019 with Snowfest Dance the next night on January 19, 2019. The Hall of Fame game will be February 1, 2019 and this year’s Hall of Fame Class will be inducted.  This class includes: Ellen Anderson, Rich Choponis, Rachel (Whitley) Modderman, Roger Rush, Gerry Dontje, and the 1972 Varsity Baseball Team.
