What is SEL?

Social Emotional Learning is an educational method that aims to foster social and emotional skills. The 5 competencies of SEL are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. At Pine River, our goal is for our students to be kind, confident, and successful students!

Your confidentiality as a student is important. In our school counseling offices, what is said there, stays there. There are exceptions, as required by law:

  1. If you or others are harmed

  2. If someone is being abused or neglected

  3. If there are court or other legal proceedings to follow

  4. If you give permission for information to be shared with others

If there is ever a need to reveal information, the school counselors will let you know in advance and work with you to handle the situation in a way that respects you and your needs.
