Today, Superintendent Michelle Gill submitted a $500,000 grant to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy to upgrade the heating / ventilation / air conditioning (HVAC) systems at the Tustin School building. If approved, these funds would provide for a new boiler system and supply some classrooms utilized in the summer with air conditioning. The youngest members of our community are served in this building through Grandma's House Daycare and the Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency's preschool, headstart and Great Start Readiness Programs. Between these vital programs, over 200 of our youngest community members are cared for and educated. This building is centrally located with easy access to Highway 131 and I'm told it is the only daycare and early childhood program in our school district region so it is vitally important to maintain. Pine River Area Schools no longer receives any funding to maintain the building so grants like this are crucial for our community.
